2.18.361, 2019 This study is carried out in the context of a process that continues as sending an image that has been screenshotted with a mobile phone via the messaging application Whatsapp, taking a screenshot of the sent image again and sending it again. As the process progresses, the image is distorted due to image compression algorithms and becomes increasingly abstract. A basic color scale consisting of 740 colors was used to make the stages of this abstraction clear. Thus, it becomes visible which data remains and which is erased during compression. The study is a research aimed at understanding how images are transformed in the information environment. Today, images are directly received in a flow of communication outside of physical environments such as museums or galleries. This environment has different characteristics from the physical environment and directly affects the nature of the images. In addition to these issues, the study investigates what the abstraction problems that developed with painting, especially after 1950 (such as the limits of abstraction, where representation disappears and begins, up to what level abstraction can be made, questioning the foundations of the distinction between abstract / representational images) can say under today's conditions, especially when considered together with Information Theory.
